2018 – Lift the Lid on Island Culture
This 2-year ACE funded project ‘Lift the Lid on Island Culture’ commenced in April 2018. Part of its process was not to dictate which artists were going to be commissioned, instead a group of artists, curators and producers, which included Stephen Foster, Lucy Day, Joanne Bushnell and myself, came together to make suggestions and curate the programme which would aim to reignite a sense of pride and passion in cultural heritage on the IW.
This was achieved through new commissioned artworks in four towns across the Island: Pan/Newport, East Cowes, Totland and Ventnor.
The selected artists and their artworks consisted of:
- Phlegm’s Ventnor Giant mural in Ventnor (seen pictured)
- Dmitri Galitzine’s film ‘Back and Forth’ involving residents from East Cowes
- Julie Myers’ The Great Light and Dark Show in Totland
- BearFace Theatre CIC performance, ‘We That Breathe’, a community theatre show in Pan/Newport.
